“GAS: combining
practical effects with CG”
Nebulas, supernovas, atmospheres and exospheres: this shot-genre will use an overarching style where images appear permeable to light or are self-illuminating. Practical effects will be combined with CG to create a more organic, ethereal mood. There will often be a visible light source in the frame to illuminate the interstellar medium. For example, a soft circle of light from the sun will shine thru gaseous structures to reveal the colour and textures within. Rim-lit and translucent, this style will visually echo our 'Micro Worlds' so that space feels alive.

“rock: directional light”
To create an authentic look for our planets and celestial bodies even down to the finest grains of space dust, we'll use strong directional light, like astronauts experience during a spacewalk. We'll avoid the ‘billiard-balls in space’ look in OSR, instead using crisp, thin arcs of light to create a sense of huge planetary spheres in the depths of deep space. Lens effects echo the look of real NASA scans and photography.
